About the Book

Masked Hero: How Wu Lien-teh Invented the Mask That Ended an Epidemic is a new book by Candlewick Press/MIT Kids Press that tells the true story of a boy who loved science. When a deadly disease came to China in 1910, he used his learning, courage, and quick thinking to invent a mask — the first version of the N95 mask — that quickly ended the outbreak, saving countless lives in China and around the world. Wu Lien-teh’s story teaches young readers that the simplest acts, such as wearing a mask, can save the lives of the people around you.

Masked Hero will be available on October 10, 2023.
